How to Negotiate Prices at Electronic Stores

In today’s society, if you do not have a smartphone or tablet you are looked at funny. Technology has taken over and most individuals have the latest gadgets and electronics as soon as they are placed on the shelves. As a thrifty shopper, I find that I can still have the latest electronics but spend much less than the average person. Just like with any type of shopping, you can save money on electronics by learning how to shop for various categories. Below are a few of my top tips for getting the best deals on electronic items.

Know When to Shop
One of the best ways I know how to save money on specific electronics is by knowing when to shop. There are certain times of the year when items are going to be cheaper than others. Televisions and video gaming systems will be at their lowest price during the Christmas holiday season. Every major department store will be trying to offer the best deal at this time, so you can save a ton! Keep track of sale papers and online advertisements from September to December to get the best deal on such electronics as video gaming consoles, televisions and tablets.

Refurbished Items
Many top electronic stores such as Best Buy, Newegg and even Amazon will offer you the opportunity to purchase a refurbished item. This means the item was purchased previously and returned due to a technical issue. The repair was made but now the item has a much lower price for repurchase. You can get the item at a deep discount if it is refurbished. It is recommended that you only purchase refurbished items from reputable dealers and read the fine print to ensure you are getting the best deal.

Employee Discount
Another way to save money on electronics is to shop with a friend. If you have a friend or family member who works in retail, they may get an employee discount. This can range from 10 to 20 percent, and would be large savings on merchandise that is already on sale. Consider asking a friend to purchase an item for you by giving them the cash to enjoy savings.

Sell Your Old Electronics
To be able to come up with quick cash for new electronics, consider selling your old items. If you are purchasing a new television, you could sell your old one to help pay for the new one. Even if you receive $50, it is a nice chunk off the new television price tag. If you upgrade your television or electronics regularly, you should be able to get a good price on a salable item which will help you to make money to cover a large portion of the new item’s cost.

Think about the area in which you live. How can you use what you have access to in efforts to save on electronics? Use some of the tips above to get a great deal on the next item you need to add to the electronics of your home.
